Work of Art/Mini-Golf Game 'Wonderputt' Updated with Universal iPhone Support, 64-Bit Compatibility, and More
I'm guessing most people would be familiar with UK developer Damp Gnat by way of their stunning surrealist platforming adventure Icycle: On Thin Ice [$2.99], but if you've been hanging around the App Store since around 2012 and have yourself an iPad then you might also be familiar with their also stunning and also surrealist mini-golf game Wonderputt [$0.99 (HD)]. Ah yes, Wonderputt. Originally released as a Flash game back in 2011, Wonderputt gives you just a single 18 hole course to play through, but that single course is a shape-shifting piece of art. As you complete each hole, various events happen that create new holes for you to play through on the huge structure, and it's one of the most whimsical experiences I've ever had with a video game. Check out the (quite old) official trailer for Wonderputt just below to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
While Wonderputt may lack in quantity of courses compared to other mini-golf games, it more than made up for it with style, and the single course on offer was meant to be played, replayed, and perfected with both leaderboards and a set of achievements to unlock as added goals to shoot for. There's also tiny rainbow bits that are added to the course on subsequent playthroughs which challenge you to play each hole in a slightly different way and will reward you for collecting them all. Basically, I'm saying don't let the lack of holes scare you away, there's more than enough to enjoy in Wonderputt as is and we really enjoyed it when it arrived on the iPad back in September of 2012. There was just one problem though: It was only on the iPad and as such there was a huge portion of the iOS device owning demographic that weren't able to enjoy the wonder that is Wonderputt.
Well, that's a problem no more! Practically out of nowhere Damp Gnat has released a new update for Wonderputt which adds in Universal iPhone support. There's a new intelligent auto zoom which ensures you always have a good look at each hole you're playing despite the smaller screen of the iPhone, and even better is the new functionality that lets you pull back to shoot anywhere on the screen instead of pulling back on the ball itself, which means you always have a clear look at where you're aiming. You can also manually zoom in and out using normal pinch gestures if you want. I just played through a whole round of the updated version of Wonderputt and it was just fantastic. This update also fixes the Retina Display visuals on iPad Air and iPad Pro and adds iOS 11 64-bit support so it should be sticking around in the App Store for a long time.
It's pretty much criminal that this game has ever only cost 99¢ especially now with the added iPhone support. So if you've missed out on Wonderputt previously now is a great time to fix that and you can check out 5 years worth of impressions in the game's forum thread too. Or, if 99¢ is too rich a price to risk, you could always still play the entire Flash version for free on Kongregate.

This is how much you could earn as an Overwatch League pro player
Overwatch League is still signing players. Have you got what it takes to earn this pay cheque?
Blizzard has detailed Overwatch League minimum player salaries and benefits, giving us a glimpse at what’s in it for those with the skills to go pro.
For starters, all Overwatch League players will receive a minimum salary of $50,000 per annum, and must be granted a minimum one year contract with the option to extend for a second year.
In addition to the base cash, Overwatch pro players will be provided with health insurance and a retirement savings plan. There are other, esports-specific benefits, too, including “player housing and practice facilities during the season which will meet professional standards set by the Overwatch League”.
In addition to salaries, teams must pay out 50% of all performance bonuses earned – prizes from play-offs, for example – to their players. There’s $3.5 million on the table in Season 1 of the Overwatch League, including a cool $1 million for the champion, so that could add up – and remember the salary figure quoted above is only the minimum amount.
Other conditions revealed today include word that Overwatch League teams can be anywhere from six to 12 players in size, and there are no restrictions on country of birth or residence – so you can be scouted or transfer to a better-paying team outside your region.
Overwatch League teams will begin signing players from August 1 and lock in their teams by October 31. Every single Overwatch player is eligible to join, by the way, although Blizzard has provided franchise owners with a scouting report highlighting top talent and potential.
Seven teams will participate in Overwatch League Season 1. It kicks off later this year but has not been otherwise dated.
We can probably expect more information at BlizzCon in November if not before then.

Niantic Publishes Official 'Pokemon GO' Fest Apology
By now you probably all know the disaster that was the Pokemon GO [Free] Fest in Chicago, with our very own Eli posting a minute by minute of the mobile equivalent of the Hindenburg disaster. After giving refunds and trying to make up for the disaster, Niantic posted a lengthy apology that further details how the Chicago Fest became a disaster for the ages. The post first takes responsibility for some of the client crashes that interfered with people's ability to log in and play the game and states how those issues were fixed with a server configuration change. However, the biggest problem (the post continues) was the oversaturation of the mobile date networks of some network providers, which resulted in many attendees being unable to log into the game.
Pokemon Go Fest Chicago turned out to be a pretty huge bummer, with Niantic offering refunds, free IAP, and pokemon: https://t.co/351gEBlmHo

Interestingly, Niantic says that it provided detailed estimated on attendance and required data throughput per user to its event partner, who then worked with the major carriers so they could in turn ensure there would be adequate carrier. Some of the carriers deployed mobile cellular towers to extend their capacity while others felt that the pre-existing infrastructure would handle it fine.
While the post stops short of blaming any provider directly, there are definitely some hints that Niantic wasn't exactly happy with the performance of the carriers. The post ends on a positive note, talking about the great response they got once they released the Legendary Pokemon. Niantic states that it has learned from the Chicago Fest incident and will make sure to improve future events. I suppose it remains to be seen.

'Nitro Chimp Grand Prix' Launching August 10th
Nitro Chimp Grand Prix, the sequel to Nitro Chimp, is getting ready to launch on the App Store August 10th. This arcade racer reminds me a bit of Joe Danger [$1.99] but from a different angle, and that's definitely a good thing because I really like Joe Danger. As you can see in the trailer below, the game will offer plenty of silly stunts and fun boosters, a variety of gameplay modes, your usual customization options, and both online multiplayer and offline modes. In other words, plenty of content.
I like the game's art, and the various customization options look pretty silly, in a good way. The developers are planning on giving away promo codes in our Upcoming Games forum thread, so make sure you race over there if you want to grab one of those codes and to read more about the game.
