Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It's time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Okay, I've got my tie on real neat-like, so I'm going to try to do this week's updates without being as off-the-wall as I have been the last couple of weeks. Some really awesome stuff this week, so it should be easy unless one of the games mentions ESPORTS or something. What are the odds of that, though? Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper Social [Free], the watchlist in the TouchArcade App [Free], or by participating in the TouchArcade forums, but this weekly summary is here to fill in the things you might have missed. Let's dig in!
Templar Battleforce RPG Full Game HD, $9.99 The Trese Brothers are continuing to do what they do best, adding new content and features long after they've released a game. This latest update to Templar Battleforce adds a new relic called the Typhoon Scanner which allows scouts and engineers to use the scan ability without any heat cost. There's also a new twist on the permadeath option to check out, and some new animations and models. I'm hoping we see a new game from this development team this year, but as long as they're as good as this one, I'm willing to wait as long as it takes.
Injustice: Gods Among Us, Free Yes, the original Injustice is still getting updates. It's got to be running on fumes at this point, but hey, I'm not going to complain. This update adds Flashpoint Deathstroke to the game via a new challenge. If you like using Flashpoint Batman, you'll find that this new variation of Deathstroke goes quite well with him. A new multiplayer season has also kicked off, and it brings with it some cool new gear that you probably won't win as prizes. Well, it's something to do while the sequel gets going properly, if nothing else.
Dungeons of Chaos UNITY EDITION, $3.99 This game sometimes gets updated twice a week, and it's rare to see more than a handful of days go by without some kind of new version or another. Now that's dedication! This is a somewhat minor update mainly centered around some tweaks to the nature ally skill, but it also tweaks a couple of other things, too. There's also a new achievement for getting through the game without buying anything. If you pull that off, you'll unlock a perk that boosts your loot value by 10%. Nice.
Dungeon Link, Free I still think it's weird as heck that the Adventure Time tie-in with this game wasn't just a limited-time event. Finn and Jake just sort of parked on that icon and I don't think they're ever going anywhere, which I suppose is fine. This update opens up Dungeon Link's fourth world, adding a new dungeon called the Lumber Mill, some new equipment, and the requisite bug fixes and improvements. Content for the content gods!
Bubble Witch 2 Saga, Free I've noticed that King has stopped putting the total number of levels in the descriptions for their games and updates these days. Maybe they figured out that those big numbers are intimidating to newcomers? They should take a page out of the American comic playbook and start breaking things into volumes so that every update brings a new number one! Actually, maybe don't do that. The whole American comic business isn't really in the greatest of shape these last couple of decades. If all else fails, just reboot.
Subway Surfers, Free I don't know how Americans see it, but I can tell you that from the outside looking in, Hawaii seems to be one of the best states. Top three, easily. And wouldn't you know it? That's where the Subway Surfers are off to this week. Collect Tiki masks, unlock the new Ukelele board, and experience the sights and sounds of the jungles, shipwrecks, and volcanoes. The update description calls it "fantastical Hawaii", and I suppose this particular vision of Hawaii is just that! Keep on surfing in the free world, friends.
Disney Crossy Road, Free Lilo & Stitch is a great movie, and I will fight anyone who disagrees. If you're on the winning team (which is Team Stitch is Awesome), you'll be happy to hear that Disney Crossy Road is finally playing host to the characters from that movie. In addition to a new stage, Stitch, Lilo, Nani, Pleakley, and others appear as figures. Did you know? Stitch was so popular in Japan that they made a cartoon series just for the Japanese market. But they changed the setting from Hawaii to Okinawa and swapped out Lilo for an Okinawan kid instead! Is this an alternate timeline? Or was someone experimenting with the past? Perhaps the work of a Cosmic Cube? We'll never know.
Cut the Rope: Magic, Free ZeptoLab may have just released a new game, but they still had time to put together some new levels for Cut the Rope: Magic. There are 18 new hidden levels to uncover, with three of them hidden in each chapter of the Magic Book. Remember when Cut the Rope was one of the biggest things around? I suspect those days are long gone, but I've no doubt it still has its fans and they're probably as hungry for new levels as Om Nom is for candy. Eat up!
Modern Combat 5 : The Multiplayer eSports Shooter, Free ESPORTS! Modern Combat 5 got an ESPORTSTASTIC new update so you can put the ESPORTS in your face! There's a new ESPORTS-ready multiplayer map called Museum, where some people might come to see 'em, but you are here to shoot 'em. In ESPORTS. There's also a new gameplay mode called Cargo where you and your opponents will engage in an ESPORTS tug of war, taking turns protecting and attacking a cargo hauler. The Armor Perks system has been deemed inappropriate for ESPORTS so it has been replaced with an ESPORTS-friendly new system called Armor Cores. There's a new weapon called the T.O.N.I., which is presumably great for ESPORTS, while the new embedded videos let you enjoy watching ESPORTS when you don't feel like playing ESPORTS. Oh, and weekly real-money prizes have been brought back. ESPORTS! ESPORTS! EEEEEESPOOOOOOORRRRRRTS!
Warbits, $4.99 It's very likely that we will never see another Advance Wars in our lives, friends. It's just how it is. But there are lots of great games inspired by Nintendo's influential series, and Warbits is one of the best of the bunch on mobile. This big update adds thirty new missions to the game. Ten of them are skirmish missions, ten are puzzle missions, and the remaining ten are veteran missions. It's a little something for everyone, and if you already own the game, it costs you nothing. If you didn't already buy the game, well, it costs a little more now. But still so very worth it, I assure you. Warbits earns this week's coveted UMMSMotW award. What do the letters mean? Probably nothing, haha!
That about wraps it up for last week's significant updates. I'm sure I've missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I'll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
