Google Play Awards Returning for 2017, Honoring Best Android Games

Google Play is running their second Google Play Awards at their annual Google I/O conference on May 18th at 6:30pm PDT. These awards will honor a dozen categories, some new and some returning from last year. There's an intriguing mix of indies up for awards, along with some big names, VR apps for Cardboard and Daydream, and some games popping up in not-exactly-games categories.

You can check out the whole list of categories on Google Play, but here are the relevant games categories:

One thing that's particularly cool is that a game is nominated in the Best Accessibility Experience category: A Blind Legend [Free]. The game uses binaural sound and no visuals to connect the player to the game, and Google has seen fit to nominate it for their accessibility award. This is really cool, because these games that go out of their way to give an experience to players with visual impairments deserve to be recognized. Shaun Musgrave's article from 2015 about this very topic is still a great read.
